Former NHL goaltender Ray Emery passed away today in Hamilton, Ontario.
According to Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet, the Blackhawks are expected to trade Hossa’s contract, along with winger Vinnie Hinostroza and defenseman Jordan Oesterle, to the Arizona Coyotes. This would free up $5.275 million in cap hit for each of the next three seasons from Hossa’s contract. Hinostroza was set to have a cap hit of $1.5 million for the next two seasons.
Forward Patrick Maroon was signed on Tuesday to a one-year deal worth $1.75 million. Maroon grew up in the St. Louis area, playing for the St. Louis Bandits of the North American Hockey League (a top-level junior league in the United States).
Former Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Brandon Manning signed a two-year deal with a cap hit of $2.25 million a year earlier this month.
Toronto Maple Leafs forward James Van Riemsdyk is going to sign with Flyers, the team who drafted him at second overall behind Patrick Kane in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft. Continue reading
