Today during the lengthy semi-finals match between Kevin Anderson and John Isner, ESPN announcer Patrick McEnroe brought up the fact that the longest game of the current MLB season was between the Chicago White Sox and the Oakland A’s.
On April 18, 2018, the Athletics defeated the White Sox in 14 innings by a final score of 12-11. The game lasted 5 hours and 48 minutes.
The semi-final match today lasted 6 hours and 35 minutes, the second-longest Major game ever. John Isner also played in the longest match in history, which was a staggering 11 hours and 5 minutes that was played across three days back in 2010. Fortunately for Isner’s mental health and willingness to play tennis, he won that match, winning the fifth set 70-68 against Nicolas Mahut of France.
Anderson will play the winner of the Nadal-Djokovic match. At the time that this article was published, each play had one set each, with Djokovic ahead in the third set 4-3.
