After a long, grueling back-and-forth tennis match, South African and University of Illinois alumnus Kevin Anderson defeated American John Isner in five sets on Friday.
It took 6 hours and 35 minutes, but Anderson won the final set 26-24. The first three sets took over 50 minutes each as they all ended up going to tiebreakers. Isner was up two sets to one, but Anderson won the fourth set 6-4.
Anderson had nothing but good words for Isner after the match. The two were opponents back in college.
Anderson will play on Sunday against the winner of the Nadal and Djokovic in the Wimbledon Finals. This is Anderson’s second Major Finals appearance, as he made it to the 2017 U.S. Open Final.
